Rare variant of lipid storage disorders.

چکیده
I N 1954 SAWITSKY, HYMAN AND HYMAN reported an unidentified lipid storage disorder in two young adults characterized by the presence in the bone marrow smear of large histiocytes with numerous blue staining cytoplasmic granules.’ By 1966 only six such cases had been reported in the literature.25 A summary of clinical and laboratory findings of these cases were compiled and discussed by Thompson and Moloney.5 In the present paper, a seventh case is reported which presents additional clinical findings, further confirming the impression that these cases do indeed represent a rare but distinct variant of the lipid storage disorders.

Clinical and Genetic Characteristics of Splicing Variant in CYP27A1 in an Iranian Family with Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis
Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare inborn lipid-storage disease leading to a progressive multisystem disease. CTX with autosomal recessive inheritance is caused by a defect in the CYP27A1 gene. Hallmark clinical manifestations of CTX include bilateral cataracts, chronic diarrhea, tendon xanthomas, and neurologic dysfunction. CTX is a rare disorder, which is supposed to be under-diag...
متن کاملValue of bronchoalveolar lavage in lipidoses with pulmonary involvement.
Adult lipid storage disorders with pulmonary involvement are rare and usually diagnosed at autopsy. We report a patient with splenomegaly and reticulonodular pattern on lung computed tomography. Bronchoalveolar lavage was performed and revealed the presence of lipid-containing foamy cells, with the demonstration of both periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and scharlach red stain positive vacuoles in the...
متن کاملGenome sequencing in a case of Niemann–Pick type C
Adult-onset Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is an infrequent presentation of a rare neurovisceral lysosomal lipid storage disorder caused by autosomal recessive mutations in NPC1 (∼95%) or NPC2 (∼5%). Our patient was diagnosed at age 33 when he presented with a 10-yr history of difficulties in judgment, concentration, speech, and coordination. A history of transient neonatal jaundice and sple...
متن کاملColocalization of Vitiligo and Verrucous Epidermal Nevus: A Simulator of Depigmented Variant of Verrucous Epidermal Nevus
Vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder, is known to co-localize with other immunological disorders like lichen planus and psoriasis. However, there are no reports regarding the co-localization of an autoimmune disorder (vitiligo) and a developmental disorder (verrucous epidermal nevus). We hereby present a 10-month-old infant who was visited for white patches on the right buttock and adjoining antero...
